Sting is a fictional sword from Tolkien's fantasty world of Middle-earth. Thought to be forged in Gondolin, it is a magical Elvish designed knife.

Bilbo baggins a hobbit finds the blade in a troll-hoard, it was found with Glamdring and Orcrist. The size of the sword means for most men would be classed as a dagger but for Hobbits is classed as a sword. The Sting sword is used to fight giant spiders in Mirkwood, Sting gained name Sting from talking spiders who refer to the sword as Sting. Bilbo uses Sting in his confrontation with Gollum under the Misty Mountains. When Bilbo ages he passes the Sting Sword on to his nephew Frodo in The Fellowship of the Ring. Frodo is betrayed at the pass of Cirith Ungol and Samwise Gamgee takes the sword to prevent it falling in to the wrong hands. Sawise returns the sword to Frodo. Samwise returns the sword to Frodo in The Return of the King only for Frodo to give Samwise Sting and all his other possessions before Ftrodo departs for the Undying Lands.

Sting has magical abilities to glow blue when near any orcs or goblins. This is a common property of First Age Elf blades, particularly swords forged in Gondoiln.
