The Great helm protected the wearer well, but it was cumbersome and it made it difficult for the wearer to see cleary. During the 1300's the great helm was superseded by the basinet style helms. This is an outstanding quality reproduction helmet made of hand-forged A-36 18 gauge mild steel. This metallurgical composition provides excellent resilience, durability and will polish to high sheen.. This is an attractive and a quality piece.
