Several calibres where in service by 1874 & had been purchased by the military of several countries around the world.

The place in the history of the old west is echoed today in its inclusion in many books & movies about the period.

The Sharps Company also produced a sporting versions of the rifle between the late 1840s and the late 1880s. Once the American Civil War had concluded, converted Sharps rifles from Army surplus stores began to be converted into custom versions.

Further versions where produced between 1869 and 1874 by the Sharps Company in significant quantities for both professional buffalo hunters & frontiersmen.
